NATURAL WAYS TO TREAT ALLERGY SYMPTOMS (PART 2 OF 3) - DIET

Allergy Relief FoodsWritten by Nikki Roxby

Diet is also important to managing allergy symptoms. Certain ingredients – specifically dairy (conventional), sugar, artificial sweeteners, and wheat – can cause mucous production and exacerbate allergy symptoms. Additional foods to avoid during allergy season include alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, peanuts, processed foods, melons, bananas, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, shellfish, bottled citrus juice, Echinacea, chamomile, and soy. The point of eliminating these foods is to reduce the overall burden on the immune system and allow you and/or your child to function at their best throughout the entire day.

Conversely, there are many foods that improve allergy symptoms by reducing mucous or histamine production:

1. Raw local honey (blocks histamine)

2. Spicy foods (clear excess nasal mucous)

3. Bone broth (clear excess nasal mucous) – I like this simple recipe

4. Probiotic-rich foods like saurkraut (promotes immune system function)

5. Apple cider vinegar (breaks up mucous and supports lymphatic drainage)

6. Fresh, organic vegetables (supports strong immune system)

7. Grass-fed beefs, free-range poultries, wild-caught fish (vitamins, minerals and protein to boost immune system)

Remember to stay organic and avoid additional toxins that may overload your immune system.
